Wisconsin Breweries History: Plank Road Brewery (Icehouse) - Owned by Miller Brewing
Charles Best opened the Plank Road Brewery in 1850.
Miller Brewing Company was founded in 1855 when German immigrant Frederick Miller
acquired the famous Plank Road brewery from Frederick Best. Today, the Plank
Road brewery is not a functioning concern, though Miller does use the name for
a division name which produces beers like Red Dog and Icehouse, and even
brewed a Plank Road beer in the past. A new brewery is now located where the
Original Plank Road brewery once stood, and Miller also maintains its corporate
headquarters here too.
The Plank Road Brewery as a division of Miller Brewing produces micro-styled beers.
Brews include: Icehouse, Northstone Amber, Southpaw and Red Dog.
