Washington Breweries History: Pyramid Breweris Inc. - Hart Brewing Inc.
In 1984 a turn-of-the-century general store in the small logging
town of Kalama, WA is the home for Hart Brewing, Inc. The first beer,
Pyramid Pale Ale, makes Pyramid Ales/Hart Brewing one of the earliest
American microbrews.
In 1992 a growing Pyramid makes its first move to a new, modern facility
by the banks of the Columbia River in Kalama, just downstream from Mt. St. Helen's.
At this time Hart Brewing purchased another Northwest brewery, the Thomas Kemper
Brewing Company in Poulsbo, WA. This union helped make Hart Brewing the leading
Northwest brewery.
In 1995 Hart opened a new brewery and le house in Seattle, WA. wich allowed
them to boost production to allow Pyramid to meet consumer demand that has grown to
28 states.
In 1996 the company decides to change its corporate name from Hart Brewing,
Inc. to Pyramid Breweries Inc. In 1997 the Pyramid Brewery opened in Berkeley, CA.
