Texas Breweries History: Spoetzl Brewery (Shiner) The Spoetzl Brewery is the oldest independent brewery in Texas and Home to the Shiner family of beers. Since 1989, the Spoetzl Brewery has been privately owned by The Gambrinus Company of San Antonio, Texas. Gambrinus imports Corona beer (and other Modelo brands from Mexico) to the eastern half of the U.S. and imports Moosehead Beer (from Canada) nationwide. Gambrinus also owns the BridgePort Brewing Co. in Portland, Oregon. Spoetzl Brewing is located roughly between San Antonio and Houston, south of IH-10 at the intersection of Hwy. 90 Alt. and U.S. 95. The Spoetzl Brewery Shiner brews include: Shiner, Bock, Blonde, Hefeweizen, Winter Ale and Summer Stock.
