Pennsylvania Breweries History: D.G. Yuengling and Son Brewery
The Yuengling brewery was started in 1829 by David G. Yuengling
as the Eagle Brewery on Centre Street in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. In 1831
a fire completely destroyed the plant and a new brewery was built on
Mahantongo Street, site of the current brewery. In 1873 the brewery name
is changed to D.G. Yuengling and Son after David's son Frederick joins
his father as partner.
In 1976 the brewery was placed on the national and state registers
as America's oldest brewery. In 1999 Yuengling purchaseed the former Stroh
brewery in Tampa, Florida and in 2000 built a new brewery in Port Carbon/St. Clair, PA.
