Pennsylvania Breweries History: Pittsburgh Brewing Company
The Pittsburgh Brewing Company was founded in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania in 1861. In 1899 sixteen Pennsylvania breweries
were merged into the Pittsburgh Brewing Company and the new brewery
immediately became the nation's third largest brewer.
In the 1940's and early 1950's, Pittsburgh Brewing Company suffered
from a violent conflict between its brewer's union and the Teamsters.
The Pittsburgh Brewing Company is currently the seventh largest
brewery in the United States(as of 2003) and the only regional brewery
that operates independently. Next to Heinz, the Pittsburgh Brewing
Company utilizes more water than any other entity in the city of
Pittsburgh PA. The Pittsburgh Brewing building represents a historic
landmark in the city of Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Brewing brand of
Iron City is an icon in the city of Pittsburgh. Some of the Pittsburgh
