Pennsylvania Breweries History: Christian Schmidt & Sons
With the sale of Christian Schmidt & Sons Brewing Company to the
G. Heileman brewers of Wisconsin, and the subsequent closing of Schmidt's
Philadelphia Pennsylvania plant at 2nd Street & Girard Avenue, in the spring of 1987,
Philadelphia was without a brewery for the first time since William Penn was around.
There was another brewery with the name Schmidt.
The Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company was located in St. Paul
Minnesota. Christian Schmidt of Philedelphia used the word (Schmidt's) on
its labels and advertising and the Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company of St. Paul Minnesota
used (Schmidt).
