North Carolina Breweries History: Red Oak Brewery
In 1979, Bill Sherrill opened a neighborhood restaurant,
"Franklin's Off Friendly", which quickly grew into a fine dining restaurant.
In 1981, the first Spring Garden Bar & Grill opened on Spring Garden Street
serving sandwiches and beverages.
In 1990, Bill decided to convert Franklin's into the Spring Garden
Brewing Company. Today, the brewery is a state-of-the-art Munich built
system that produces fresh, pure, and wholesome Bavarian lagers according
to the Purity Law of 1516. In May of 2000, the Spring Garden Brewing Company became the Red
Oak Brew Pub. This name change occurred in order to capitalize on the
popularity of Red Oak Amber Lager.
Future plans include a larger brewery to be built on I-85/40 right
outside of Burlington. With the new brewery, the Red Oak Brew Pub
will be able to brew the Red Oak Amber Lager at its current high-quality
level, and continue to provide first-rate service to their clients and customers.
