European Breweries History: Black Sheep Brewery
Black Sheep Brewery started delivering casks of beer in and around the
Yorkshire Dales in October 1992. Black Sheep Brewery was started by Paul
Theakston whos family has brewed in Masham for five generations. They
owned the Theakston brewery that was taken over by Scottish & Newcastle in
1988. The new Black Sheep brewery was opened in an old maltings building
that was once part of Lightfoot’s Brewery (Masham’s “other” brewery
purchased for Theakston’s by Paul’s grandfather in 1919).
