Colorado Breweries History: Broadway Brewing
Broadway Brewing is a limited liability corporation which pools the
financial resources of Aspen's Flying Dog Brewpub and Denver's Wynkoop
Brewing Company. Broadway is located in a defunct laundry building which
has been turned into a streamlined brewery.
With 36,000 square feet to call home, Broadway brews, bottles
and kegs Doggie Style Ale, a 1991 Great American Beer Festival gold-medal
winner from Aspen, and Wynkoop's flagship Railyard Ale for statewide
distribution. Expansion into microbrewing was prompted by the fact that
both brewpubs had reached capacity and could not fulfill outside demand.
Broadway also contract-brews and packages Red Lady Ale for The Idle Spur
Crested Butte Brewery.
In addition, Broadway's in-house restaurant and pub will actively
promote and sell draught beer from other microbreweries and brewpubs in the
state. "A brewpub seeking out competitors' beer is unheard of," said pub
manager Christopher Golub.
Golub is getting Colorado brewers to keg their specialty beers,
or beers they sell only locally, so Broadway Brewing can make them available
to Denver patrons. Brews at the 16 taps will change regularly, and the pub
could add another 16 taps if necessary.
