Canadian Breweries History: Black Oak Brewing

Black Oak Brewing was founded in 1999 by president Ken Woods and former brewer John Gagliardi, Black Oak unveiled their Nut Brown Ale and Pale Ale to Ontario in November of that year. The two brews were initially only available in bottles, and were kegged in January of 2000.

In the summer of 2000, Black Oak released their third brew, Premium Lager. Since its release the Premium Lager has become Black Oak's best-selling brew.

In the fall of 2000, Black Oak released their first seasonal, an Oktoberfest. It was available on draught for a very limited time at Toronto pubs C'est What and the Rebel House. Following up their Oktoberfest, Black Oak has produced a Saison and a Christmas Nutcracker.

Black Oak Brewing beers are craft brewed, prepared in small batches using a 17 Hectolitre brew house with four 34 Hectolitre Unitanks and one 34 Hectolitre Bright Beer Tank in a 4,200 sq. ft. facility. The brewing equipment is custom engineered, high tech and Canadian made. The majority of the ingredients are Canadian. Black Oak Brewing only uses reverse osmosis water (R.O. H2O) during the brewing process. This lets Black Oak have more control over the quality of the brewing water. Thay treat the water with minerals to make authentic styles of beer.
