California Breweries History: Lost Coast Brewery

The story of the Lost Coast Brewery is one of two young women. What could be more fun than to get up every day to make beers you love and serve them to an appreciative public? That's exactly what Wendy Pound, a family and marriage counselor, and Barbara Groom, a pharmacist, the Lost Coast Brewery's founders, asked themselves in 1986 when the Lost Coast Brewery idea began to ferment.

After much brewing and planning, including visiting scores of pubs in England and Wales, Wendy & Barbara opened the Lost Coast Brewery & Cafe in a 100-year old building in Eureka, California. The building, a restored wood frame structure built in 1892, was purchased from its original owners -- The Fraternal Order of the Knights of Pythias.
