California Breweries History: Eel River Brewing Company

The Eel River Brewery was built on the site of the historic Clay Brown Redwood Mill, in the heart of Northern California's Redwood Country. Eel River brewing was opened on December 2nd 1995 in Fortuna California which is about 20 miles south of Eureka California. The Eel River brew pub sports a 30 foot long bar made entirely from recovered historic Redwood and Douglas Fir, and features the largest beer garden on the North Coast, with seating for nearly 100 people. The Eel River Brewing Company restaurant serves up generous portions of pub fare, steaks and seafood.

Eel River Brewing produces several beers includeing: Ravensbrau I.P.A., Ravensbrau - Porter, Climax - California Classic Ale, Blonde - California Ale, and Organic beers like Certified Porter and Organic Amber Ale. The Eel River brewery was the first brewery in california to have its organic beers Certified by the state of California as truly organic.

Even though Eel River brewing is located in a beautifully unpopulated area it has motels, a gas station and the Fortuna River lodge next to it. It makes for a great stop when traveling up the California coast on highway 101.
