European Breweries History: Franziskaner Weissbier
Franziskaner's roots can be traced back to 1363. It was in this year that the brewer Seidel Vaterstetter is first mentioned as the owner of the 'brewery next to the Franciscans' in the Munich Residenzstrasse. The name 'Franziskaner' derives from the Franciscan monastery diagonally across the street. Today Franziskaner weiss beers are produced and bottled in one of the world's most modern production plants. At the turn of the millennium Franziskaner is one of the market leaders in the weiss beer sector, a clear indication of the popularity of this premium weiss beer. |
