Virginia Breweries History: Williamsville Brewery
The Williamsville Brewery was established in Virginia in 1963. In early 1995,
Williamsville reached an agreement with Paramount to set up a microbrewery
at the Kings Dominion amusement park. In the fall of 1995 Bob Cabaniss, the
President of Williamsville brewery purchased the St. Maarten Breweries N.V.
in the Netherlands Antilles, near Puerto Rico. In January of 1996, Williamsville
Brewery opened their second brewery in Amelia Island, in Fernandina Beach.
First Coast Brewing was another of Williamsville's operations
and was based out of both Fernandina Beach and Wilmington, North Carolina.
Some of Williamsville Brewery well know pub brews were: Studley Brown Ale
(a traditional English brown ale); Amelia Island Amelia Ale (a medium-bodied
golden ale moderately hopped with four different kinds of hops); First
Coast Bikini Ale (a very light and clean ale); First Coast Mango Ale (a
light beer flavored with all-natural mangos); Beach Brewing Amber Wave
Raspberry Wheat (the name says it all); and Wilmington Brewing Dergy’s
Porter (a rich dark beer with five different kinds of malts).
Williamsville Brewery bottled: Williamsville Border Porter, Williamsville
Cabo Pale Ale; Williamsville Brewery Golden Lager; First Coast
Beach Beer; First Coast Brown Ale; First Coast Bikini Ale; First Coast Mango Ale
Jungle Brewing Jag Lager; Wilmington Brewing Dergy’s Amber; Wilmington
Brewing Dergy’s Golden Ale; Amelia Island Amelia Ale; and
Wilmington Brewing Dergy’s Golden Ale.
Williansville Brewery also opened the Main Street Beer Company in
Richmond, Virginia which is now also closed. They used what once had been
the location of a several grocery stores to open a huge brewpub.
